Biden to Europe

On Wednesday, Biden will depart for the UK on his first overseas trip.

He’ll meet with PM Johnson on Thursday and then attend the three-day G7 meeting over the weekend in Cornwall (if you haven't been, it's a lovely part of England with rugged and rustic coastlines).

On Sunday he’ll also meet Queen Elizabeth and then leave for Brussels, where he’ll attend the NATO Summit and the US-EU Summit.

After this flurry of meetings meant to shore up the western alliance and tell the world America is back, on June 16 Biden will be in Geneva for a one-on-one with Putin.

China, COVID, Climate, and Cyber will dominate the headlines and readouts.

Interesting data point, over the course of Queen Elizabeth's six-decade reign, she has personally spent time with 13 out of the last 14 sitting US presidents—Lyndon Johnson was the only one she missed having the pleasure to spend time with - EIIR and LBJ, that would have been some meetup.

As for the communications and political implications for global business around Biden's one-week European excursion, expect little short-term impact beyond America wants to be back on the global stage talking points and a deeper commitment to multilateralism from Team Biden.

This trip is designed for long-term policy shaping and the making of the "Biden Doctrine." Team Biden is all about going big domestically and globally - so expect big moonshot policies.

Also, China will be less than pleased with events.

By June 17, Beijing will no doubt feel further removed from the cool kids. Plus there will be plenty of talk from other world leaders and political pundits suggesting China isn't doing its part to be a globally responsible stakeholder.
