How Pep Guardiola used a video to help Manchester City win the Premier League

At one point this season, Manchester City was on a 12-match unbeaten run.

One of those matches turned out to be a critical 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

City’s players had prepared extensively for the Liverpool match, which was sandwiched between home and away Champion League matches against Spanish powerhouse Atletico.

With such a demanding schedule of playing Europe's top teams, it was not surprising the City players were struggling with the pace and mentally exhausted.

City's coach Pep Guardiola asked the team's videographers to put together a montage of the highlights of the season.

Guardiola decided that he would show it to the players before kick-off in the dressing room.

He had one key stipulation.

The montage had to contain a clip of each player who has played for City this season, regardless of their age or status within the squad.

The idea was to remind the players of their successes and the fact that they had all played a role in putting City on the brink of another Premier League title.

The video worked.

The communications worked.

City came out of the dressing room blazing and scored a goal only five minutes into the match.

Though the final result against Liverpool ended up as 2-2 draw, it might as well been considered a win.

As the final points were added up to declare this season's Premier League champion, City would secure the trophy over Liverpool by just one point.

A loss to Liverpool that day would have cost City two points negative.

A loss to Liverpool that day, it is unlikely City would be the Premier League champion today.

A montage limited to stars, it is unlikely City would be the Premier League champion today.

Another team talk from the coach and not a video, it is unlikely City would be the Premier League champion today.
